Pelvic floor rehabilitation for all genders

Rehabilitation of the pelvic floor is a multifaceted and multi-disciplinary approach to address bladder, bowel, sexual, and lymphatic function. Because of the location of the pelvic floor within the center of our bodies, and because the health of the pelvic floor is crucial for continence, reproduction, and pleasure, maintaining integrity of this structure is paramount to our overall sense of health and wellbeing.

Liz has been life-changing for me helping with my very long-term pelvic floor issues. Her knowledge of the pelvic floor and different ways she approaches my body consistently astound me. I have seen several physical therapists before her, and none of them took even half of the holistic or thoughtful approach that Liz does. She assesses my entire lifestyle, body makeup, and habits, and gives me lots of different recommendations and routines, always shifting and personalizing them again each time I see her. Within just a month of seeing Liz, my pelvic floor troubles were significantly improved, and I honestly couldn’t even quite believe it. I was thrilled to have had such a huge change so quickly. I feel very taken care of working with her, and always feel very certain she’s considering all aspects of my body and its functionality and needs. I’ve never had care like that from any doctor, and it’s been wonderful. I would highly recommend Liz (and have!) to anyone I know struggling with similar issues.

I am so grateful to have Liz as a personal resource for my own physical therapy as well as someone to whom I can confidently refer my massage clients and friends. She has been tremendously helpful to me as I’ve navigated my own physical challenges, and has done so with a combination of warmth and skill that is comforting and reassuring. I have no doubt that anyone with a body could benefit from working with her.

Education and workshops

Liz has been teaching workshops in various settings since beginning her career as a physical therapist.  Class size has varied from 6 students in a small clinic to over 50 students in a festival setting. Her classes incorporate education on anatomy and biomechanics with practical applications via movement, partner work, and exercise to facilitate the learning process.

One of Liz’s favorite aspects of being a physical therapist is having the opportunity to facilitate the discovery of healthy movement in the body.  Teaching in a workshop setting allows for this process to happen with a sense community—afterall, we humans are social creatures and there is a lot we can learn by studying movement and structure together.

In more recent years Liz has taught several workshops on the pelvic floor.  What is compelling about this topic in particular is discussing a part of our body that has too often been stigmatized, ignored, or simply not talked about enough.  The group setting shows folks they are not alone in their struggles, and that is such good medicine.

In addition to movement related classes, Liz has done a lot of work educating her colleagues on trauma informed care, and how to address intimate partner violence as a clinician.  Please contact her if you’d like to set something up for your clinic on this topic.

If you would like to bring her to your gym, studio, festival, office, or clinic, please contact her at lizwilliamsinfo@gmail.com to discuss!

I had never sought out massage, but I had been having some really painful neck, shoulder, and back pain for months and needed short-term relief and help devising a long-term solution. Liz provided everything I needed to feel better and then some! Because she is not only a massage therapist but also a physical therapist, Liz approaches bodywork with deep knowledge and intelligence. After just a few sessions with her, I felt immeasurably better, and just as importantly, I understood for the first time how my spine, neck, and shoulders actually work, and how I can better support my body and remain pain-free. Liz is also an uncommonly compassionate person. She helped me understand I had to approach the pain in my body not with impatience and frustration, but with kindness. I cannot recommend Liz highly enough.
